Dear Friends:

More than 40 years ago, I met with a handful of others in a church basement to share the pain management skills I had recently learned at the Cleveland Clinic. Over the following decades, that one small support group grew into the American Chronic Pain Association, a highly respected international organization offering education and support to the millions living with pain.

Today, I am announcing my retirement. As of July 1, 2021, the new CEO of the ACPA will be Kathy Sapp, supported by Scott Farmer as COO. I will remain on the ACPA Board of Directors to help guide Kathy and Scott through the transition. Kathy and Scott were selected because they share our vision and commitment and bring valuable skills to the fulfillment of our mission. We know they will preserve and enhance the resources of the ACPA and our integrity and high standards of service for people with pain.

You can reach out to them at ksapp@TheACPA.org and sfarmer@TheACPA.org to learn more about their vision for the growth of the ACPA. Under their leadership, I know the future of the ACPA will be brighter than ever.

I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish over the decades on behalf of people with pain but I am also very grateful. My work with the ACPA has helped me maintain my own wellness and confirmed for me the value of community and mutual support. I thank you for making this journey with me and wish you success on your path to a fuller life in spite of pain.
